Fernando Fracassi was born in Campobasso, Italy in 1962.
Fracassi studied the flute with Alessio Persichilli at the Conservatory of Music 'Lorenzo Perosi' based in his native town. He received a Master's Degree in Flute in 1983. Thereafter he attended master classes and courses with Stephen Preston, Conrad Klemm and Arrigo Tassinari. He also specialized in chamber music in 2007 at the Music Institute 'Gaetano Braga' of Teramo, Italy, with the pianist Luciano Cerroni.
As a soloist and a recitalist, Fracassi has played in the USA, Sultanate of Oman, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Hungary and in Romania. In 1991 he has performed as soloist in anniversary festivals of Antonio Vivaldi (Bucharest, Romania - Guest Conductor: Alexandru Morosanu - 'Clasic' Chamber Orchestra of the Romanian Broadcasting) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tirgu Mures, Romania - Conductor : Aurel Niculescu,
Harpist: Nagy Emese-Cluj Napoca's Philharmonic Orchestra, Romania).
His outstanding achievements include performances as a soloist at Santa Cecilia Main Hall in the 'Parco della Musica' of Rome in the presence of the Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. The concert was broadcast live worldwide from RAI International Broadcasting. In the same year he participated in a Columbus Day 2004 concert performing as Piccolo soloist at 'Felician College' in Lodi, New Jersey, USA. In 2005 he also played at a gala concert in the presence of Queen Beatrix of Holland in Breda, Holland.
As an orchestra player, Fracassi was Flutist with the Rome Musicians' Union Orchestra (Rome, Italy-1989), Co-Principal Flutist with Oradea's State Philharmonic Orchestra (1990 and 1993-1996), Co-Principal Flutist of Tirgu Mures' s State Philharmonic Orchestra (1991) (Romania), Principal Flute of Molise Symphony Orchestra (Campobasso, Italy 1998-2000),
Piccolo Player (Italian Representative) with the International Military Band of The European Union (Breda, Holland - 2004) and Piccolo Soloist with the National Army Symphonic Band (Rome, Italy/2000-2007).
His most important collaborations as a flutist and a lecturer include: The Italian Institute of Culture (Bucharest, Romania
1991 and 1996), Dinu Ghezzu and Robert Sirota, New York University-Department of Contemporary Music (1993), CSA (Viterbo, Italy-2005), Swedish Institute of Classical Studies (Rome, Italy - 2005), Romanian Academy in Italy (Rome - 2005 and 2007), Thomas Fraschillo, Luigi Zaninelli and David Gregory (The Southern Mississippi University - Hattiesburg - Mississippi (New York and Rome/ 2000-2007), Bob Hansson (Skanor, Sweden - 2008), Corrado Bologna ('La Sapienza' University-Department of Philosophy-Rome, 2008), Embassy of Japan in the Sultanate of Oman (Muscat, 2010 and 2011), William Bennett (Muscat, Sultanate of Oman - 2010 and 2011)
Fracassi has made recordings for RAI - Italian State National Broadcasting.
In addition to his activities as a flutist, a composer and a musicologist, Fracassi is also a researcher of psychology of music, philosophy of music, aesthetics of music, ethnic flutes and comparative music with particular reference to modern and contemporary music, literature, philosophy and the visual arts.
Since 1987 he has been a member of the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers.
Fracassi plays in different music styles on all families of ancient flutes and Boehm flutes including those coming from different countries of the world, such as shakuhachi (Japan), tin whistle (Ireland), caval, tilinca, arguol and fluier (Romania), friscaliettu and ocarina (Italy), amplified and modified flutes.
