  Professor of Flute at The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (ROSO) 

               Al Maqamat  (As Seeb - Sultanate of Oman)  -  Flautist and Composer 

               Researcher of Comparative Arts, Ethnical Flutes and Psychology of Music

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fernando Fracassi was born in Campobasso (Molise - Italy) in 1962.

 

At the age of nine years, he began to study Flute and Piccolo under the guidance of  Enrico Renna  and later of Alessio Persichilli at Conservatory of Music of the Italian State "Lorenzo Perosi" at his native town, becoming Professor of Flute in June 1983 with highly successful results.

 

After his Flute Degree, in 1984, he moved to Rome. Here he specialised privately with Arrigo Tassinari. Parallely, he  followed courses with Conrad Klemm attending at the same time different seminars with Angelo Persichilli.

 

Between the years 1981 and 1992,  Fracassi was Professor of Music Education and Flute at various middle and high Schools of the Italian State.

He was also member of Commission at many Degree regarding Maria Montessori' s pedagogical method. In the entire period his students were more than two thousand and a part of them today operates as professionist musicians or teachers in Italy.

 

Within this period, Fernando Fracassi studied  indepth Pedagogy of Music and the Psychology of Music. He made several researches in these cultural fields.

During his Romanian period, between the years 1993 - 1996, he studied Musical Analysis with Emil Simon, retired conductor at Cluj-Napoca Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania).

 

In February 2007, Fracassi  holds a  Degree in Classical Chamber Music at Conservatory of Music "Gaetano Braga" of Teramo (Abruzzo, Italy), studying with the pianist Luciano Cerroni. Fracassi debated a sperimental thesys regarding the relation between Receptive Music Therapy and Classical Chamber Music listening, uniting his passion and studies of Psychology with his profession as a  Flutist player and Composer.

 

Fernando Fracassi boasts an important career as Flautist and Piccolo Solo player both in Orchestra and Symphonic Band. He was permanently:  Principal Flautist Player (1st Flute Solo) at Molise Symphony Orchestra (Campobasso, Italy / 1998-2000) and besides Co-Principal Flautist Player at Oradea' s State Philharmonic Orchestra (Oradea, Romania/ 1993-1996) and Tirgu Mures' s State Philharmonic Orchestra (Tirgu Mures, Romania /1990-1991), Flautist at Musician's Union of Rome Orchestra (Rome, Italy /1989), Piccolo Soloist at  Italian Army State Symphonic Band (Rome, Italy / 2000-2007) and Piccolo Soloist at European Union Military Band (Breda, Holland / 2005).

 

He performed in Europe (Finland, Holland, Hungary, Romania, Sweden), Middle East (Oman), Africa (Egypt) and America (New York State and New Jersey State) playing as soloist with the accompaniment of several orchestras (between them:  Chamber Orchestra "Clasic"  of the Romanian Broadcasting, Black Sea State Philharmonic Orchestra, Cluj Napoca State Philharmonic Orchestra, Oradea' s State Philharmonic Orchestra, Italian Army State Symphonic Band, etc.), as recitalist with the accompaniment of many international chamber formations (double bass, guitar, harp, harpsichord and piano) and, during the new Millennium, as solo composer and performer with live electronics or, alternately, with classical contemporary chamber groups.

 

He played for Her Majesty the Queen Beatrix of Holland, for the retired Head of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and performed also at important theatres such as : Auditorium "Parco della Musica" - Santa Cecilia Main Hall (Rome, Italy), Rockefeller Center of New York - Grand Central (New York  - United States of America), Auditorium "San Feliciano" (Lodi - New Jersey - United States of America), etc.

 

Fracassi was also invited to play as soloist with the accompaniment of orchestra at various Festivals such as  " Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Aniversary " (Tirgu Mures - Romania, 1991), "Antonio Vivaldi Aniversary" (Bucharest, Romania, 1991), etc. and also to collaborate with the Swedish poet and writer Bob Hansson. Besides, he performed as lecturer and composer during several conferences regarding the relation between Music and Visual Arts, Music and Philosophy and Music and Literature.

 

He collaborated with many and important Professors of international cultural Institutions. We remember between them: Professor Dinu Ghezzu and Professor Robert Sirota  (The New York University  Department of Contemporary Music, 1993), Professor Thomas Fraschillo, Professor Luigi Zaninelli, Professor David Gregory (The Southern Mississippi University - Department of Music for Band , from 2000 to 2007) and besides  The Italian Institute of Culture in Romania (Bucharest, 1993-1996), The Swedish Institute of Classical Studies in Italy (Rome- Italy, 2005), The Romanian Academy in Rome (Rome - Italy, 2005), The Embassy of Japan in Oman, (Muscat - Sultanate of Oman, 2010)  etc.

 

Fracassi  recorded as orchestral player several  compact discs for various labels such as:  Electrecord (Bucharest, Romania), The Southern Mississippi University Label (Hattiesburg, Mississippi - United States of America), Olympia (London, England), Scomegna (Turin, Italy), etc.

 

Parallely,  he made various  recordings for The  Italian State Broadcasting (Radiotre) and The Romanian State Broadcasting (Radio Romania Cultural).

Particularly, one of his most important concerts as soloist with the accompaniment of Symphonic Band, performed at Auditorium "Parco della Musica" - "Santa Cecilia Main Hall" in the presence of around three thousand listeners and the maximum Italian Religious and Political Authorities, was transmitted in direct worldwide by Rai International (Italian State Satellite Broadcasting).

 

Many international newspapers and magazines have published various articles about Fernando Fracassi like : Cuget Liber (Costanta - Romania), Il Tempo (Rome, Italy), Il Messaggero (Rome, Italy), Bihary Naplò (Oradea - Romania), Jurnal Bihorean (today : Bihoreanul) (Oradea, Romania), Telegraph (Costanta, Romania), La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno (Potenza, Italy), Il Piccolo (Bergamo, Italy), L' Eco di Bergamo (Bergamo, Italy), Posten (Velligne, Sweden), Sydsvenskan (Malmo, Sweden), etc.

 

From January to November 2009, Fracassi was Professor of Flute at The Royal Guards of Oman Military School of Music (Halban) near the location of  As Seeb in the Sultanate of Oman.

From December 2009, he is resident Professor of Flute at The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (Al Maqamat - As Seeb - Muscat, Sultanate of Oman).

 

At the moment he composes and performs especially Modern and Contemporary Classical Music, Electro -Acoustical Music and Ambient Music on the whole ancient and Boehm Flute families including several ethnicals flutes and piccolos like arguol, fluier, friscaliettu, nai, ocarina, shakuhachi, tilinca, tin whistles, etc. such as Music for Movies and Dramas.

As recitalist, he actually plays with the accompaniment of various classical groups and more as Solo musician and Composer with live electronics.

 

Parallely, he operates as Researcher, Lecturer and  Writer of the History and Aesthetics of Classical Music, Classical Chamber MusicEthnomusicology related to the Flutes world, Literature, Poetics and Dramatics, Comparative Studies of Arts and Philosophy related  to the Classical Music repertoire and Music Psychology.
